Melissa Patino makes use of human anatomy to recontextualize our relationship to one another and our environment. As more and more of our interactions are mediated by technology, the primacy of the physical world seems to recede in the face of increasing digitization. Reminding us of our physical fragility, she juxtaposes elements of the body with landscapes and portraits to form a narrative about our psychology, physiology, and how we experience the world. Patiño's work examines the ways in which we remain anchored within our physiology and how this connects us to larger systems in both society and nature.
